* EasilyForgiven: [[spoiler:Not just by Zhao, as noted in his character entry, but by Ichiban to a degree as well. Despite his murder of Nonomiya being the reason Ichiban got involved with the Ijin Three conflict, not to mention trying to torture him and his friends to death, he doesn’t argue against Zhao letting him go and even helps Zhao convince him to leave town again before Seon-Hui can catch him and make him pay for the Geomijul’s base being burned down.]]

* SelfMadeMan: Unlike Zhao, who was born into a position of power, Mabuchi earned his position by managing to get a college education (which as an ethnic minority in Japan is already incredibly difficult) and claw his way to the top through skill and hard work. Subverted in that while he did that on his own Zhao reveals he had to kneel to the old guard at least once to keep Mabuchi alive and [[spoiler: he catered a favor to Seong Hui so he has a headstart in getting out of Yokohama.]] As good Mabuchi was, his ambition and viciousness would have gotten him killed if he didn't have protection from higher power.
* SmugSnake: Mabuchi thinks that he's got the [[TheEvilGenius brains]] and [[TheUnfettered will]] to become a shark in Japan's underworld, but in the end he's just a guppy trying to [[spoiler:curry favor with the real sharks (the Omi Alliance) by selling out everyone around him]]. Further, his counterfeit yuan scheme is the backbone of his enterprise, but Seong-hui reveals that he didn't even come up with it on his own (one of his subordinates suggested it to him), and it only got off the ground at all because [[spoiler:he was unknowingly piggybacking off the Ijin Three's own counterfeit yen operation, and they decided it wasn't worth shutting down. He's also under the belief that he's capable of dodging the Geomijul's wrath when in reality the only reason Seong-Hui hasn't had him killed was because of Zhao's protection]].

* AintTooProudToBeg: [[spoiler:With the Omi-backed Bleach Japan mob inches away from her money printing facilities at the climax of Chapter 9, Seong-hui was compelled to bow to Ichiban and co. to buy her enough time to torch the place.]]

* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: Not quite a main character, but she's this to the Florist of Sai. Both are mysterious figures known in their respective cities as being practically all-knowing, and the source of said omnipotence is revealed to be a series of well-hidden security cameras scattered throughout the city. However, while the Florist is an ally to Kiryu throughout his run as TheProtagonist, at worst just having him compete in his underground arena in exchange for information, Seong-Hui is starts off as a BitchInSheepsClothing who has no qualms with trying to kill Ichiban and co. when they threaten her empire, [[spoiler: namely Nanba for being in the know of their money laundering]]. Plus, while the Florist is a middle-aged old man with a bit of a gut on him, Seong-Hui is a young-looking and attractive woman.

* ShipTease: Seong-Hui spends quite a bit of chapter 7 flirting with Ichiban, to the rest of his party's annoyance. This of course ends up coming to a halt after the reveal that [[spoiler: she insists on having Nanba killed for his attempts to spy on the Geomijul]]. Seong-Hui is also not a romance option for Ichiban.
* TheUnfought: Keeping the series tradition of not allowing female opponents, Seong-Hui is never fought despite Ichiban and his party coming into direct conflict with the Geomijul. She's armed but spends the actual battles standing on the sidelines while her men do the fighting.

* AntiVillain: He is a blight on Japanese democracy, being the one controlling the prime minister and creating a counterfeit money racket so he can keep his power. But he also did it to protect those that fell through the cracks of the system and keeping a fragile peace. Seong-Hui mentions that while his favor to give them a home didn't come free, it was still a favor.

* FauxActionGirl: She holds authority and draws a gun out at one point, but she actually just leaves the fighting to her underlings. She ends up simply disarmed in a cutscene and doesn't put up a fight afterwards, instead just sending her men to do the fighting for her. That being said, she does give Ishioda [[GroinAttack a kick to the nads]] that takes him out of the fight.

* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:He joined Arakawa's family so that he could be close to Masato, his biological son, whose inability to walk was indirectly caused by Sawashiro abandoning him after he was born. In addition, he decided to turn himself in in order to make up for his crimes and ensure that Masato will stay safe, while also knowing that Masato would have him executed either way for disobeying orders and having tried to foil his own plans. It would later become AllForNothing since the latter dies.]]

* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: At the end of the game he loses the neat, slicked back hair and returns to the hairstyle he had as a teenager/young adult to represent him [[spoiler:crossing the DespairEventHorizon after being imprisoned and both Arakawas dying.]] It makes him look less like a Yakuza boss and more like a tired old man.

* FateWorseThanDeath: [[spoiler:By the end of the game, he gets life in prison where he gets to spend the rest of his existence stewing on his actions as well as the knowledge that everyone he cared about is dead]].

** Wants to eliminate all "grey" things, and "bleach" them white... how does he do so? He undertakes "grey" actions of his own, starting with hiring people to bust up a restaurant. [[spoiler: He also murders Ryo Aoki at the end, still believing in the cause, which means he should have just let the proper authorities handle him.]]

* DiabolusExMachina: [[spoiler:His presence in the ending can appear like this. Somehow he manages to find Aoki and Ichiban despite not being privy to the significance the coin lockers have to the former and manages to get away without being stopped or the police being called on him.]]

* SinisterShiv: When first fighting Ichiban, he prompts to take an intimidatinglu large glass shard as a weapon. His second boss fight has him use more conventional weapons (barring CaneFu), although the last stretch has him {{dual wield|ing}} his broken cane and the other half of his broken katana (both are sorta shivs depending on how you look at it).

* MilesGloriosus: On the surface, he is capable of holding speeches and framing them to make himself look like the good guy, but he buckles ''instantly'' the moment someone with actual teeth comes biting at his heels. One instance is how he finds himself tongue-tied and pants-pissing scared the moment Ichiban calls him out on his hypocrisy during their impromptupublic debate.

* RichBitch: She wasn't one on a technicality, but she stole her husband and son's incomes in order to live like one.
