My name is Back Alley Guy, I'm Dutch, and I mostly work on Video Games pages. I also fix grammar a lot, help clean up Disambig wicks, fix complaining and natter, and give stub pages more flavor by adding more tropes, subpages and wicks. As my avatar would tell you, I'm a big fan of Pizza Tower, and platformers in general. The harder the better. I also often make small video games in Spore Galactic Adventures. Though as of yet they are all privated, as I can't get the servers to work. The first page I visited on the wiki was Eggs For Bart of all things, back in 2020, but I didn't create an account until 2023.
Tropes that describe me, the stuff I create, and what I basically do:
- Author Appeal:
- The Cthulhu Mythos. The stuff I create often features Lovecraftian Eldritch Abominations as antagonists. They also very often contain Shout Outs to the mythos.
- Zany Cartoons from the 30s and 80s are also a common influence of the stuff I create. Though I mostly parody or comedically deconstruct the associated tropes rather than playing them straight.
- Cats are often featured in the stuff I create, as they are my favorite animal.
- Aliens are often featured in the stuff I create too. Of both the benevolent, and evil variety.
- And finally, a lot of my works contain Shout Outs to Pizza Tower, as I'm a huge fan of that game.
- Cult Classic: A ton of the video games I really like are really obscure, and often don't even have works pages. Bang-On Balls: Chronicles is a notable example.
- Favorite Trope: There are multiple tropes that I absolutely love.
- Cringe Comedy: In my opinion, this type of humor is the GOAT... if not done too much, that is.
- Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: These kind of jokes always crack me up no matter what, due to the Bait-and-Switch aspect, as well as defying Reality Is Unrealistic in a funny way.
- Grammar Nazi: I absolutely despise bad spelling or grammar, and usually fix it the moment I see it.
- It's Easy, So It Sucks!: I don't like games that are too easy, and prefer everything Nintendo Hard. (Though even I do have my standards).
- Kindhearted Cat Lover: I love cats, and that's often reflected in the stuff I create.
- Nightmare Fetishist: To some degree. I love Cosmic Horror Stories, and the Cthulhu Mythos in general. This is often reflected in the stuff I create.
- Pet-Peeve Trope: There are several tropes whose mere existence pisses me off:
- Bad to the Bone: I consider this to be lazy, and distracting from the experience. Probably the worst example of this has to be The Super Mario Bros. Movie. As awesome as that movie is, I really don't like the large amount of liscensed songs it contains, And would much rather prefer usage of original songs.
- Cliffhanger: I really hate when works use these, especially in movies and video games. This is mainly due to how often the cliffhanger just gets left hanging, which can greatly sour the reputation of the work. Some of the worst examples of this are Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, and Mega Man Legends 2, which get a huge amount of hate for their unresolved cliffhanger endings.
- Hollywood Autism: As I'm autistic, this trope personally insults me. Thus, whenever a work uses this, it's a red flag in my opinion.
- That Reminds Me of a Song: I consider these to be an easy way to pad out the runtime of a movie, as they rarely contribute to the plot.
- Unsettling Gender-Reveal: I absolutely despise these, as they're both homophobic and transphobic, as well as being unfunny overall. This is one of the few tropes I believe can't be done right under any circumstances.
- Video-Game Lives: I consider these to be an easy way to pad out the amount of time it takes to beat a game, and an easy way to add difficulty. I also don't like how they're often completely meaningless (Kirby Star Allies and Marsupilami: Hoobadventure are possibly the most Egregious examples of this), and are a really easy way to give video game money an actual purpose. Though some games like the Toki remake pull this off fairly well, giving it a few Roguelike elements.
- Quirky Work: Much of the stuff I make in Spore Galactic Adventures is this. Like in one of them you have to platform across a bunch of weird-looking buildings to collect shells that are on top of them, because in the universe of that game, it's tradition to put a shell ontop of every single building.
- Villain Protagonist: One of my Spore Galactic Adventures games, Invinci-Bill is about a failed invincible Artificial Human named Invinci-Bill who was emprisoned in a lab for years for being violent, but he escapes and goes on a violent killing spree in which he has to kill various different enemies within a strict time limit, allthewhile enemies have various ways to waste your time, such as freezing you or stunning you with electricity. Invinci-Bill can also notably Mind Control enemies into helping him.
