I was thinking, perhaps it is from a short story collection I returned. I returned these: the Twisted Endings series by Timothy D Mclendon, Small Horrors: A Collection of Fifty Creepy Stories by Darcy Coates, 86 Short Horror Stories by Zahid Zaman, and Some Will Not Sleep: Selected Horrors by Adam Nevill.

Does this ring any bells for anyone? Please help.

From what I find on goodreads.com, the Twisted endings series has stories of usually not more than 5 pages, more often 3. In some reviews there are very short synopsises(?) for a few of the stories, which don't fit. But maybe the size of the stories can help to either focus on or discard that series.

I appreciate the response, but it is no use. I asked this here, on two other forums, and yesterday I even messaged my local library, who have been quite helpful to me when I would ask about books, but I will never find it. If I can only locate it on my Kindle collection, but I have a feeling it is either in one of the books I still have my Kindle, or a book I returned. Thank you again for the reply, I truly appreciate it.

Bump, I updated the main post, and a few of my bumps. I am sorry for sounding so desperate, but I have seen several of the answers here posted for other queries, and you all have been bringing up TV shows, movies, books, video games, songs, etc., all I have not even heard of, or several, I am sure this must ring bells for someone horror/sci-fi fanatic here.

I will check the five Twisted Endings series, I will also check the Shadows and Teeth – Ten Terrifying Tales of Horror and Suspense trilogy. It's got to be something. I know I did not imagine it.

Does no one here read short horror stories? I am amazed not one person even attempted to guess.

I did for a while. This does sound similar to something I read once, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. I remember virtually no details, but I think the cover of the physical book was monochrome.

I am sorry for sounding so brisk, but this is driving me off the wall. I asked all around the internet and not one person even knows what I am talking about, not even my local library and they were the most helpful. By any chance, what do you mean by monochrome? Perhaps I can try to remember the cover.

Florien Since: Aug, 2019

I think it was largely white with some design in the middle in a darker color. I forget what the design was of though. I think it covered about a quarter to a third of the cover, and was centered.

I have a gnawing feeling that this was one of the Twisted Endings books by Timothy D Mclendon, but for the life of me, I cannot remember which one, one or two if I can recall has a white cover. I first downloaded them on Kindle, but they are no longer available on Kindle. I also asked this question on Yahoo Answers, and someone replied yesterday that the author Joe Hill wrote these type of stories, perhaps it is a story by him, maybe.

Another bump. No one else can help? Only two tried answered so far. If others can guess even the most obscure of queries someone can help here. I know at least several here read or have read short horror stories. Tired of bumping if no one else will even bother to help.

Have you tried /asking/ Joe Hill or Timothy Mc Lendon? If you write a politely worded letter to them, inquiring if one of their stories might happen to fit, you might get an answer. Since you seem to have narrowed it down that far, two letters isn't that big of a next step. I know I've written to an author in the past who wrote multiple series to find out which series a story took place in, and I've gotten a response. It's well worth a try.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried searching contact for Timothy D Mclendon, he does have a contact on his Facebook page, but I do not have Facebook anymore, and I am not registering an account just for the sake of contacting him. I am on Twitter though, perhaps he has contact there. I will try the same for Joe Hill. Thank you for this response, I am not having any luck at all, I tried searching this on TONS of forums and not one person knows. I think when I finally find this, I bet it will be entirely different than I actually remembered. I did try the trope, 'No Ontological Inertia', but no luck.

Just another bump. It is so strange how no one knows this at all. I know I am not the only one here who has read short horror.

No worries. I am sorry for being so demanding with this one, but hardly anyone replied to me here, just about two people. I asked this on so many forums, and not one person knows. I think perhaps I am getting the information I provided wrong and I am not remembering it as well as I think, but I wish I knew at least the name of the short story collection. If I can find that out, I will be able to find this out.

It's alright. Sometime people can figure it out and we sometimes remember a little thing so we have a hard time describing stuff.

I don't read horror, but I recommend the Stump the Bookseller blog at Loganberry Books. Each post costs $4 USD, but they specialize in obscure things and the solution rate is decent.

This is sad to watch. Go and re-read the Twisted Endings series if you're pretty sure it's in there. If it's not in your Kindle, are you sure this wasn't All Just a Dream? Have you checked out that Stump the Bookseller page.

I tried ordering the Twisted Endings on Kindle again, which is where I originally read the series, but no such luck. I did try, believe me. It was definitely not a dream, I clearly recall reading it. I will try Stump the Bookseller. I tried asking my local library, who are quite helpful and answer most of my queries, but no luck there either. I purchased Sinister Stitches, and looked around for this story in that short story horror collection, but to no avail. Thank you for the suggestion though. It is very appreciated. I cannot remember if I asked this on the Tip of my Tongue page on Reedit (TOMT), which is similar here, but if not I will try there as well. I have tons of books on Kindle, and looking through them will take all day, which I do not have. I do remember reading this at least in 2016 (maybe 2015), it was fairly new I believe.

It occurs to me that short fiction in any genre is often collected in annual anthologies.

So I searched on Google for "short stories horror annual anthologies 2010s" and found "The Best Horror of the Year", a series of anthologies published yearly since 2009. There are twelve volumes listed at the Wikipedia article here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Best_Horror_of_the_Year I think Volume 7 or 8 should cover 2015 or 2016.

It's worth a try. If no luck, try your own google search with the words I suggested. Sometimes a broader search is better than a narrower one.
