As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.

workingEdit History link fix
(This was something I saw on the private mod tech wishlist that I think should be brought over if it hasn't been proposed already)
I don't know if this is a bug or a feature buut...
Currently, you can't go directly to a specific edit past the most recent 15 edits of a page (what you see if you don't click the "show all" button)
If you copy+paste the link from the edit history time stamps to the URL or click a pothole for a specific edit elsewhere on the wiki...
- Going to the link to the last edit before the most recent one on Better Off Sold will take you directly to the edit in the page history.
- Clicking the link to any of the edits after the 15 you see before clicking the "show all" button on Better Off Sold just redirects you back to the first 15 edits on the page history screen before clicking "show all"
A workaround for this issue is adding &more=t before the # edit number in the URL like https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Main.BetterOffSold&more=t#edit34481638
but that's pretty inconvenient. I wonder if it's possible to fix the page history so we can link to specific edits without having to modify the URL beforehand.
Edited by MacronNotesworkingIn-Editor Length Counter
As discussed here, it'd be useful to have a line in the wiki editor that tells how long the page is, in HTML bytes, before the red Too-Long warning appears. Apparently a simplified version of it was in the old version of the site but was removed at some point.
Edited by AmonimusworkingGive the mods the ability to lock an individual item in a crowner
Ok, I’m not sure I’m the one who should be asking this cause it’s a mod feature, but in the particular IP thread called the Image Suggestion Thread, certain items can be put on their respective pages after it reaches a certain number of votes after a given amount of days and then marked DONE.
One of the rules in the crowner description is
- Do not vote further on items marked DONE
So to prevent this from happening at all, may I suggest the mods be given the ability to lock the items already added and marked DONE.
Edited by AudioSpeaks2workingBookmark button when viewing individual TLP drafts
Currently the bookmark button on TLP drafts can only be viewed from the draft list and not from the draft page. Since the TLP search can be kind of bad, being able to bookmark the draft you found without having to find it in the list may be very helpful.
workingDisable new crowner option
Speaking of, how about letting mods toggle the accessibility of the "Add New" button between "available" and "mods-only"?
workingList of your created threads
If it's at all possible, a "Created Threads" sort of thing, which has all the threads that the Troper created. I feel that it'd be better than having to use the "Find Posts by Troper" thing and then going through dozens or hundreds of pages just to find threads you've started, for instance.
workingA requirement for explanation when bombing
The whole point of TLP is to iron out tropes before launch. If someone is going to bomb, they should be required to explain the issues they have with the trope. A 100 character minimum as well so they can't just say things like "This sucks" by way of explanation.
workingAdd an option to add descriptions to avatars in the avatar gallery
Not only would it be better for accessibility, it'll make it easier for other tropers to know who the avatar is and where it came from.
workingHide Page Info for nonexistent pages
For pages we don't have an article for, Page Info box is still present, but it's empty. You can also edit the pagetype, though it won't save.
Logically, this box shouldn't be visible then.

For new users, to be sent a one-time pm:
- When first registered, requesting to read Welcome to TV Tropes and Administrivia as well as some info on site's navigation.
- When opening the edit window for the first time, to show a briefing from Text-Formatting Rules, How to Write an Example, and some layout explanation.
- Also, if making a new page in Media namespace, ask to make sure the page has 3+ tropes and a description, as well as image uploading guide.
- When opening the forum page for the first time, to show a briefing from TV Tropes Forum
- When opening the TLP for the first time, to tell about it's purpose and proceedings.
workingTroper Counter
This is kinda minor, but I wouldn't mind having the Troper Counter come back.
workingMake it easy to find unread queries
I and others struggle to find old queries marked as unread (new replies) in my query list that has been growing over the years. I suggest unread threads/queries to bubble to the top of the list. Alternatively, there should be a sorting/filter option to bring them quickly into view.
workingA preview feature for private messages/notifiers
I think a preview feature for notifiers would be helpful because you can't edit a message/notifier once you send it. So I think this would be nice to check formatting issues.
Edited by AudioSpeaks2workingColor Mark in signatures
Could the color mark up show up in forum signatures as well as posts?
workingFlameBait rewording
The Flame Bait tag say "This example contains a Flame Bait entry. It should be moved to the Flame Bait tab."
There is no such tab because we do not use Flame Bait/ as a namespace, so it should Instead say something along the lines of "These are forbidden outside of each Flame Bait's respective trope pages."
Edited by AmonimusworkingAdding Webcomic to the New Edits list
It would make them easier to search, especially in the filter.
workingBetter way to delete viewed PM's
(Narrowing down to one item at mod's request)
Pretty sure there was at least one thread about this before, but since that's being archived and might be paid much attention to in future, I'd like to suggest/re-suggest a thing. There really needs to be a way to delete multiple PM's at once; click, wait for page to load, End button, Page Up button, check cursor position, click, wait for page to load, etc, ad nauseum. Every time I feel like cleaning some of them out so I can look at the old ones and remember what I kept them for, it's a long-ass process that shouldn't take so long, or even be necessary. There should be a way to just check a bunch of boxes, hit a Delete button, and have many PM's disappear at once, as is the case with most electronic correspondence systems, whether they're the selling point of a site or not.
Edited by KnowlessmanworkingAdd "Theatre" to the namespace options for ATT and YKTS
The 'select medium' option for ATT doesn't currently allow you to select theatre - nor does the equivalent YKTS option.
Can we add it in?
workingGive the New Edits page the ability to filter by YMMV.
Give the New Edits page the ability to filter by YMMV.
'Cause right now it has to be done by URL.

Something that would be handy in Trope Repair Shop for checking whether tropes are being correctly used would be a tool that, when you enter a page into it, counts the total # of wicks, randomly selects a portion of those wicks, and generates a list of the selected wicks. That number would need to be fairly sizeable; the count mentioned in the TW thread that suggested this was either 50 or the square root of the total # of wicks, rounded up, whichever is better for the size of the page. One possible option could be for the tool to tell you the total # of wicks and allow you to select a number to pull, or default to the aforementioned rounded square root.
